Hiring a work-study student at the end of the hiring period
It’s not too late to hire a work-study student in July 2025! Take advantage of the latest opportunities, secure the talent that’s still available, and give your business a boost before the start of the school year with our practical tips.
Time is running out for work-study recruiters: as of late July 2025, most contracts have already been signed. Yet every year, qualified candidates are still actively looking for a host company. Rather than giving up, find out how to turn this situation into a strategic advantage and seize the very last opportunities on the market.
Why Work-Study Programs Remain Strategic, Even Toward the End of the Hiring Season
Hiring a work-study student—even at the last minute—remains a real asset: it’s a way to train future employees, bring in dynamic individuals who bring fresh ideas, and strengthen your employer brand. Furthermore, the current regulatory framework and financial incentives make work-study programs even more appealing, including for companies that hire at the last minute.
Hiring Incentives for Work-Study Students: Programs Still in Effect
Hiring incentives for work-study students are a major advantage, particularly for attracting candidates in the final stages of the hiring process:
Up to 6,000 € for hiring an apprentice with a disability.
Up to 5,000 € for companies with fewer than 250 employees.
Up to €2,000 for companies with 250 or more employees.
These amounts apply to the first year of the contract, for degrees up to the Master’s level (Bac+5). Please make sure you have not already received funding for the same work-study student and the same professional certification. Companies with 250 or more employees must also meet certain quotas for work-study students or contracts designed to promote professional integration. These subsidies have been in effect since February 24, 2025.
Define Your Needs and Prepare for a Quick Integration
Despite the urgency, careful preparation is essential. To recruit a work-study student effectively, clearly identify:
Clear tasks to assign to the work-study student.
The specific skills required.
Measurable goals to be achieved.
Prepare a detailed set of specifications and appoint a motivated and available mentor. High-quality support is essential for successful integration, especially as the launch date approaches.
Where and how can you find profiles of work-study students who are still available?
Now is the time to optimize your search to find work-study opportunities for candidates who haven't signed on yet. Here are the channels you should prioritize:
School Networks and Vocational Training Centers (CFA): Contact the training centers directly. They often have lists of candidates who haven't found a placement yet and are your best allies for targeted applications.
Specialized platforms: Repost your job listings on dedicated websites such as alternance.emploi.gouv.fr, letudiant.fr, or JobTeaser.com. Candidates check these platforms right up until the last minute.
Virtual job fairs and forums: Take part in the latest online events. These live sessions can speed up the process and allow you to meet highly motivated candidates.
Social Media: LinkedIn is an essential channel. Use relevant hashtags like #alternance2025 or #recrutementalternant. Create engaging posts (testimonial videos, company culture) to highlight your opportunity. Also, be sure to harness the power of all social media platforms! At Bonanza, we’re convinced that your largest talent pool is on social media! Harness its power to target candidates—whether active or passive—by offering them a seamless and engaging experience through innovative campaigns and a personalized pre-qualification process.
Administrative Procedures: The Key to a Stress-Free Hiring Process
Successful recruitment depends on handling the paperwork properly. Be sure to meet the deadlines, verify that candidates have the required degree, confirm the contract duration, and comply with the quotas specific to large companies. Efficient administrative processing is key to quickly hiring a work-study student.
Best Practices for Successful Work-Study Recruitment
Focus on the candidate experience: Offer a simple, fast, and digital recruitment process. Responsiveness is highly valued by candidates who are actively looking for a job.
Focus on exemplary onboarding: Develop a structured onboarding process, involve teams from the start, and highlight the value of the assignments. A well-integrated work-study student is a long-term asset.
Communicate your commitments: Highlight your commitment to training, supporting, and offering real opportunities for growth. Show candidates that your company is the right choice, even during these times.
